This gallery honours the memory of Geoff Peters (Sergeant Chalkie 1969-70) who sadly passed away on the 26th July 2013 before he had finished this project. He was suffering from Pulmonary Fibrosis. His wife Jenny, with the help of others, has completed this project in his honour.

Your assistance is required to identify his mates in the photos. This can be done by commenting on the page or emailing the webmaster directly at fcord@bigpond.com. Please identify the photo(s) by quoting the number of the photo (identified in the caption)

  1. And there’s more: Pics 047 and 048 are photos of the two Papua New Guineans from the labour line who worked at the Education Section. In 047 Trawae is on the left and Zeeang is on the right. 048 is a photo of Trawae. Trawae had worked out that the way to keep the education officers and sergeants happy was to keep the coffee coming. When I arrived in PNG I was a standard NATO man – white with two. Every Papua New Guinean has a sweet tooth and Trawae’s coffee was like treacle. The only way out was to drink black coffee no sugar and I have ever since.

  2. On closer inspection: a couple more points about pics 027 and 028. In pic 027, I believe that the third person at the table, whose face is obscured, is SGT Bob Humphries. Given that Bob’s feet are on the table it can be safely assumed that this was not an Army PR photograph.
In pic 028, SGT Bob Humphries is between the stacks, I believe that it is SGT Alan Percival reading in the background while I happen to be occupying the foreground.

  3. Gee! We were better looking in those days. I have not seen pics 027 or 028 before.
‘unsure’ in pic 012 is ARA SGT Bob Humphries.
My guess is SGT Wolf Iwanowich (MCS) on the left in pic 032.

    Cheers to all.
