A “group plaque” located at the entry statement of Fairbridge Farm near Pinjarra south of Perth commemorating the life of WO1 Frederick Wilson – among others. This is where Fred Wilson along with many others spent their early years.
The other names on the plaque are of fellow former child immigrants who were casualties from WW11 and  Korea.

Members of the Educational Corps (Privates?? at the time) who were billeted in the Engineers Barracks at Middle Head (following Infantry Training at Singleton 1968) and were attending lectures at the School of Pacific Administration just up the hill. At that time they were also involved in doing the Dress, Drill and Military Law for our “promotion” to T/Sgt. This photo was probably taken at the Manly/Warringa Leagues Club on a night out.

The handsome young Pacific Islander was Sgt Ross Bailey’s “wash/iron boy” named Naki from the Chimbu District. Naki was fantastic except when his wantoks descended on him and he needed extra cash for food or to “spark lik lik”.
Any generosity would be rewarded with extra clothing appropriated from other members of the Sergeants Mess which I would have to distribute back to the rightful owners

  1. I am trying to get a photo of SGT Barry Nunn in uniform for a framed memorabilia presentation for family. Can anyone assist

  2. Re 1967 Army Football Photo: RAOC Sgt George Foster was Capt/Coach, (I was Best Man at his wedding in that year). I am in the Rear Row, 2nd last in from right. The person on the right of George F. was a RAEME Major, (whose name eludes me), who was the President of the F.C.

    • Avia,
It was an honour to serve with your late grandfather, RSM Osi at Taurama Barracks. He was a very well respected man in the Battalion. Elegantly dressed in his PIR greens, he dominated the parade ground, kept the labour line in order and played an excellent game of darts in the Sergeants’ Mess. However, I occasionally beat him at indoor bowls at which he was a master. Great memories!
      Regards,
      Terry (1PIR 1967-8)

      • Thank you Terry,
I am so glad to have read your response. My grandfather did love to bowl and was always immaculate and precise in everything he did.
Thank you again and kind regards
        Avia

    • Hi Avia,
I served as a “Chalkie” at Taurama during 1968-69 when your grandfather was there. I have a copy of his recruiting poster & photo “Strongim Kantri Bilong Yupela”. It would mean more to you now rather than me so you are welcome to have it. If you would like it, email your postal address.
      Regards,
      Peter Chard
